Unfair Dismissal Qualifying Period Rising To 2 Years

The government have announced that the qualifying period for employees to make an unfair dismissal claim to an employment tribunal is increasing to 2 years, with effect from 6th April 2012. This will be an important change for all employers, and especially for our clients, as employers will be allowed an extended period of freedom in this area, without fear of reprisal. However, we would always advise fair and consistent processes to be in place and followed, as it must be remembered that this change does not exclude employees making a claim relating to discrimination or a breach of statutory right, for example.
