Are you planning Pay Reviews for 2012?

Thursday 29th March 2012

I listened in on a CIPD ‘webinar' recently about pay reviews for 2012. It was interesting to gain a global outlook of the influences on pay in larger companies, and I will add my thoughts in this post on how this could affect the SME sector. The presenters of the webinar looked at predicted inflation rates and economic growth and found that in certain ‘bright spot’ industries such as construction, there may be a 3% pay increase for 2012. Certainly, some industries such as oil and gas, have withstood the force of a recession. On the whole however, pay increases for employees are looking bleak – contributed by rising unemployment meaning an excess supply of labour, difficulties for areas such as the house building market and voluntary and public sector pay freezes and budget cuts.
