HSBC Start Up Stars Awards - through to the next round!!

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Gravitate HR have been selected to be one of the 10 winners to represent Scotland in this year’s HSBC Start Up Stars Awards.  This means that we go forward to a national judging panel, who will select 10 national finalists and 5 Green Award Finalists.

If we are successful at that, its off to London to make a presentation and attend an interview!

We are really excited and pleased with our progress in the competition and look forward to some positive local PR in the press and radio - so if you hear or see of us, do let us know!

You can monitor our progress by visiting hsbc start up stars  - wish us luck.

HSBC Business Start Up Stars Awards

GravitateBanner2New

Gravitate HR have been nominated as Scotland Finalists in the HSBC business start up stars awards. This has been a great boost to the team and a great PR story with existing and new clients. We are now working through our submission for the next round which is in July. In itself this is interesting as it has made me revisit the business plan, benchmark what we have achieved versus our goals and reflect on successes and less than successful activities in the last six months. This is a very salutary and informative process and has focused my mind on the need for targeted business development activity and sharpening our marketing activity around this.

So our fingers are crossed and if any one has some tips or helpful comments on award submissions that would be greatly appreciated.

Margery

Chevron One HR

Sunday, June 22nd, 2008

Margery joins European HR Managers from Chevron for their annual One HR Conference in Edinburgh.

Margery was invited to present an interactive session as part of the skills development programme for the HR teams from across Europe during their annual conference. The session focused on the mechanisms and business requirements to demonstrate value of HR initiatives to the business. This was a wide topic delivered to a wide audience therefore focused on approaches to think about this and ways to adopt adding value to personal contribution to HR. The contrast of working with SME where there is a very short line of sight between HR input and outcomes and the value to the business provided a platform for individuals within a large and complex corporate setting to consider how personal and team based activities could be measured and communicated to influence business managers.

A very varied session with much discussion and interesting examples.

A farewell and a promotion

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Today it is with sadness that we say farewell to Amanda. She leaves Gravitate HR to go to a Regional HR Advisor role with WH Smith and we wish her the very best in her future career. Amanda has been with Gravitate for over a year (a long time in the history of Gravitate!) and her passion for most things, (but especially sugary tea and biscuits) will be missed by us all - Good Luck Amanda!

And while we’re on the subject of team news - Congratulations are due to Heather, who has been promoted to the role of HR Consultant and who will be taking on much of Amanda’s responsibilities.

We are in the process of recruiting a new HR Assistant, as well as an Office Administrator on a work experience position, so there is no such thing as a ‘routine’ day with us! Funnily enough though, when I have asked people what they like best about working here, as well as asking people in interviews why they would like to work for Gravitate HR, the word that comes up time and time again is ‘Variety’! It seems that people thrive on, and seek, variety in their work, and this they will certainly experience with us! HR is always an area of work which is full of new and different challenges due to the the fact that people are at the core of what we do. Mutiply that variety by the number of different clients in different types of business we work with, and you will start to understand life at Gravitate HR!
